Position Summary

The Adult Education Academic Assistant is responsible to the Director of Adult Education Services to work in the classroom setting to assist the Adult Education Instructor. May provide one-on-one instruction but may not provide classroom or group instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES:


  • Follows the directions of the instructor or program director and works as an effective member of the instructional team to ensure success of the students.
  • Carries out the preparation of instructional materials for use by the instructor.
  • Monitors and observes student behaviors and shares observations with the instructor.
  • Assists instructor in providing individual support for student instructional materials.
  • Organizes, uses, and maintains supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assists in providing non-instructional support for students.
  • Understands community resources and discusses possible referrals with the instructor.
  • Assists instructor in implementing, recording, and monitoring student educational plans.
  • Assists instructor in administering, scoring, and evaluating diagnostic tests.
  • Assists instructor in preparing student folders and maintaining records of student progress.
  • Assists instructor in collecting data for reports.
  • Understands and uses AAESAP data system.
  • Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduation from high school or GED certificate required.
  • Two (2) years of experience administering TABE exams preferred.
  • Prior adult education testing and reporting experience preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel to multiple locations, including detention centers.
  • Effective oral, written, interpersonal, and computer literacy skills.
  • Commitment to the teaching-learning process of the community college and the open-door admission process.

PROJECTED STARTING DATE:
June 2024

SALARY:
Salary Schedule H-35, Grade 19 - $21,968 – $29,566 (12 months) based on previous full-time and related experience, as submitted by the candidate in the application packet, subject to verification upon hire.
