Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Institute of American Language and Culture (IALC), the Assistant Director manages the grant-funded, adult literacy, Community ESL (CESL) program. Responsible for student enrollment, retention, and data management across Fordham and NYC performance tracking systems. Supports IALC initiatives and revenue generating programs as needed.

 

Travel is required in this role. Evening/weekend work as needed.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Administers day-to-day operations of the IALC CESL program, including but not limited to supervising CESL administrative/clerical staff, student workers, and volunteers; coordinating CESL instructors’ administrative responsibilities; supporting Associate Director in curricular and instructional enhancements, and overseeing CESL recruitment, student placement, and retention efforts.
  • Manages data and enrollment records in both NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and Fordham information systems.
  • Collaborates with university and community partners to extend ESOL literacy, digital literacy, and social services. Coordinates case management for CESL participants.
  • Represents Fordham/IALC at funding agency meetings.
  • Collaborates with University divisions, programs, and faculty to support migrants and adult English learners.
  • Develops and facilitates seminars and excursions to support participants in IALC’s outreach programs on campus and in the community. Supports the development, promotion and administration of special programs at IALC.
  • Collaborates with the IALC administrators on the development of both revenue-generating and community-service programs.

Management Responsibilities  

Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions.

 

Additional Functions      

  • Substitute instructor in IALC programs in emergencies or in exceptional circumstances.

 

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • Master’s degree TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or equivalent in a related field
  • Minimum two years of combined ESOL teaching and administrative experience
  • Minimum of two years educational administration experience

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Demonstrated success coordinating administrative projects in an educational setting
  • Advanced technology skills: learning management systems, MS Office, Google applications, and social media
  • Proven ability to work with adult literacy/ESOL learners and students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality. Knowledge of best practices in the field
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Active involvement in professional associations (TESOL, NAFSA, etc.).
  • Proficiency in more than one language.
  • Excellent skills in intercultural and interpersonal communication.
  • Competence in writing grant proposals.

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $62,400

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $66,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
